Lifeline Of Transformation, Says PM Modi On Bairabi–Sairang Rail Project

PM Modi inaugurates Mizoram’s 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang railway and key projects worth Rs 9,000 crore, enhancing connectivity and growth in the Northeast.

Bairabi-Sairang Railway

Aizawl witnessed a landmark moment on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 51.38-kilometre Bairabi-Sairang railway project virtually, alongside several other development initiatives totalling more than Rs 9,000 crore.

This new rail connection will place Aizawl, Mizoram’s capital, on the Indian railway map for the first time.

PM Modi also flagged off three trains linking Sairang with major cities, including Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati, further enhancing the region’s integration with the rest of the country.

Addressing the people of Mizoram remotely, the Prime Minister highlighted the significant challenges overcome to construct the railway through difficult terrain.

He described the project as a ‘lifeline of transformation’ that promises to revolutionise the lives and livelihoods of the region’s residents.

“This connection will open new markets for farmers and businesses, improve access to education and healthcare, and generate employment in tourism, transport and hospitality,” PM Modi said.

Infrastructure and Education Projects Gain Momentum

In addition to the railway line, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for several vital road projects. These include the Aizawl Bypass Road, as well as roads connecting Thenzawl to Sialsuk and Khankawn to Rongura.

These developments aim to reduce travel times and provide better access for horticulture farmers and local communities.

Continuing his focus on education, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Eklavya Model Residential School at Tlangnuam. Officials expect the school to boost tribal enrolment, reduce dropout rates, and offer quality, holistic education to tribal youth.

Mizoram has gained direct rail connectivity with the inauguration of the Bairabi-Sairang railway and related infrastructure projects. This milestone places it alongside other Northeastern capitals like Guwahati, Agartala, and Itanagar.

The projects signal a transformative phase for the region, fostering growth and integration with the national economy.
