Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of transformative education and skill development projects at the Skill Convocation Ceremony in New Delhi. These initiatives, valued at over ₹62,000 crore, aim to empower India’s youth and strengthen Bihar’s educational infrastructure ahead of the Assembly elections.
Two flagship programmes were unveiled during the event. The ₹60,000 crore PM Setu Scheme will directly link Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with industry, fostering employability. Authorities inaugurated 1,200 skill labs across Navodaya Vidyalayas and Eklavya Model Schools to enhance practical learning and skill acquisition.
PM Modi also announced the establishment of a new Skill University in Bihar, named in honour of Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur.
“Karpoori Thakur dedicated his life to uplifting the weaker sections of society. The Skill University in his name will further that mission,” the Prime Minister remarked, cautioning against attempts to appropriate Thakur’s legacy.
The Prime Minister highlighted Bihar’s rapid educational transformation under the NDA government.
He cited the expansion of IIT Patna, NIT Patna, Patna University, Bhupendra Mandal University, Jaiprakash University, and Nalanda Open University.
The government has doubled scholarships under the CM Boys and Girls Scheme and made student loans under the credit card scheme interest-free, demonstrating its commitment to youth empowerment.
Employment Generation and Economic Relief
PM Modi noted that over 50 lakh youths have secured employment in Bihar over the past two decades, including 10 lakh permanent jobs recently, with 2.5 lakh teachers recruited in the last two years alone.
He emphasised Nitish Kumar’s vision to double job creation in the next five years. Linking these initiatives to economic relief, he also cited recent GST reductions on bikes and scooters, which have particularly benefitted Bihar’s youth.
The event saw the participation of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, JDU working president Sanjay Jha, and thousands of students and teachers from ITIs nationwide joining virtually.
Through these initiatives, PM Modi aims to equip Bihar’s youth with skills, education, and opportunities, reinforcing the state’s role in national development.
The initiatives will strengthen Bihar’s socio-economic growth by focusing on employment, infrastructure, and skill-based education, positioning the state as a model for youth empowerment and nation-building.
