PM Narendra Modi on Friday praised the outgoing UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for his contributions in strengthening the bilateral ties between India and the UK during his tenure.
Taking to X, PM posted, “Thank you Rishi Sunak for your admirable leadership of the UK, and your active contribution to deepen the ties between India and the UK during your term in office. Best wishes to you and your family for the future.”
Earlier in the day, Conservative Party leader Sunak conceded defeat in the UK general election as the Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, secured a resounding victory.
PM Modi and Sunak had recently met on the sidelines of the 50th G7 Summit in Italy’s Apulia last month, where they reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
During their conversation, both leaders reflected on the enduring strength of the India-UK relationship and agreed on its future growth.
Sunak had also congratulated PM Modi on the BJP-led NDA’s third consecutive election victory, emphasizing the robust friendship between the UK and India which, he believed, would continue to flourish.
In May, Sunak lauded India’s emergence as an ‘economic superpower,’ highlighting that new and fast-growing economies like India, Indonesia, and Nigeria are playing a pivotal role in reshaping the global economy.
