As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi essentially set the foundation for the renovation of 508 railway stations across India on Sunday. The expensive undertaking is anticipated to cost $24,470 crore.
A milestone day for Indian railways
Modi posted the information about the occasion on his Twitter account the day before. He predicted it would be an important day for the rail sector. “…At 11 AM, the foundation stone to redevelop 508 railway stations across India will be laid under the historic ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’. At a cost of almost ₹25,000 crore, the redevelopment will revolutionise how rail infrastructure is imagined in our nation. It will boost ‘Ease of Living’ and enhance comfort as well as convenience. Special care has also been taken to ensure the stations are in line with local culture, heritage, and architecture,” he said.

Renovation of 508 railway stations
The 508 stations are dispersed among 16 states and union territories, with 55 stations each in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana, and 13 in Karnataka.

“PM is personally monitoring the project,” says Railway minister
Rail minister Ashiwni Vaishnav also spoke about the event and said “Development of these stations is a major focus of our government. Our PM is personally monitoring the progress of these railway stations. He has given inputs in designs of these stations and will be laying the foundation of these 508 stations.”
