PM Modi Inaugurates Safran MRO Facility As India Accelerates Aviation & Space Capabilities

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Safran Aircraft Engine Services India’s new MRO facility in New Delhi today.

The advanced facility showcases India’s growing aviation capabilities while reinforcing national ambitions for strengthened aerospace self-reliance on Wednesday.

Safran’s facility will provide dedicated Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul services for LEAP engines powering major commercial aircraft fleets. The project represents the first instance of a global engine OEM establishing full-scale MRO operations inside India today.

Authorities developed the 45,000 sqm facility with approximately Rs 1,300 crore initial investment inside GMR Aerospace Park.

The centre will eventually service three hundred LEAP engines annually and employ over one thousand skilled Indian technicians. Officials expect the facility to reach full operational capability by 2035 while delivering globally benchmarked engine maintenance solutions.

The government highlights reduced foreign exchange outflow and strengthened supply-chain resilience as major advantages of indigenous MRO expansion.

Recent policy initiatives including GST reforms and updated MRO guidelines, have significantly improved the ease of operations for providers.

The milestone facility reinforces India’s ambition to emerge as a global aviation hub supported by domestic engineering capabilities.

Prime Minister Modi will also unveil Skyroot’s Vikram-I orbital rocket via video conference during the Wednesday morning event. Vikram-I features satellite launch capability and represents a critical advancement for India’s rapidly expanding private space industry today.

Skyroot’s new Infinity Campus will provide extensive workspace for designing, integrating and testing multiple launch vehicles monthly onsite.

The rising success of private space enterprises underscores recent reforms that have strengthened India’s global leadership in space.
