PM Modi Inaugurates Indore Metro, Satna & Datia Airports In Push For MP Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated three major transport infrastructure projects during his visit to Bhopal on Saturday- Indore Metro Rail and the Datia and Satna airports, signifying a leap forward in urban and regional connectivity in Madhya Pradesh.

The inauguration took place as part of commemorations for the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, with PM Modi celebrating the legacy of the Malwa queen at the Women Empowerment Maha Sammelan.

Metro For Indore

Madhya Pradesh launched its first metro in Indore with a 6-kilometre operational stretch covering five stations, forming part of a 31.3-kilometre corridor.

The project represents a ₹7,500 crore investment to modernise Indore’s public transport.

The metro features stainless steel coaches with emergency systems, LED displays, and accessibility aids, including intercoms and announcements for the visually impaired.

Modern Airports Take Flight

The Datia airport, originally completed in 2015, was expanded with ₹70 crore in 2023 to accommodate 72-seater aircraft.

It now boasts a 1,810-metre runway across 118 acres and will launch direct flights to Khajuraho and Bhopal.

Similarly, the government developed Satna airport from a World War II-era airstrip with an investment of ₹30 crore and secured DGCA approval for 19-seater aircraft operations.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recalled Indore’s first rail link to Khandwa, launched by the Holkars in the 1870s.

He noted that over 150 years later, the city now enters a new era of mass transit.

PM Modi’s announcements tie the past to the present, furthering the state’s vision of sustainable mobility.

Apart from the transportation projects, PM Modi launched a ₹778 crore initiative for the construction of river ghats along the Kshipra, and released ₹483 crore for 1,271 new Atal Panchayat Bhavans to strengthen rural infrastructure.

PM Modi received a rousing welcome; in a heartening display of patriotism, thousands of women greeted him by waving the national flag.

Following this enthusiastic reception, he rode in an open jeep with CM Mohan Yadav and BJP MP chief VD Sharma, receiving a traditional welcome with a ‘Sindoor’ plant, symbolising local hospitality.

These projects reaffirm the Centre’s commitment to transforming Madhya Pradesh through infrastructure, urban mobility, and cultural revitalisation.
