PM Modi Inaugurates India’s First Regional Rapid Train Service ‘Namo Bharat’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated ‘Namo Bharat,’ India’s inaugural semi-high-speed regional rail service, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. This launch marks the introduction of the Regional Rapid Train Service (RRTS) in India, signifying a significant step in the nation’s transportation infrastructure.

‘Namo Bharat’ has been hailed as a transformational regional development initiative, primarily aimed at providing high-speed trains for intercity commuting, as confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). To emphasize the importance of this service, Prime Minister Modi himself took a ride on the train and engaged with schoolchildren during the inaugural event.

The rail service was recently rebranded from ‘RapidX’ to ‘NaMo Bharat.’ The initial 17-kilometer priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor is set to commence passenger operations the day following its inauguration.

This priority section, connecting Sahibabad and Duhai Depot, encompasses five key stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. Notably, RRTS trains have been designed with passenger comfort in mind, offering amenities such as overhead storage, Wi-Fi connectivity, and charging options at each seat. The premium-class car stands out with spacious seating, ample legroom, and convenient coat hangers.

Safety is also a prime concern, with the inclusion of CCTV cameras, an emergency door-opening mechanism, and a communication button for passengers to contact the train operator in case of need.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is a massive infrastructure project with a budget exceeding ₹30,000 crore. It aims to establish a swift and efficient transportation link between Delhi and Meerut, reducing travel time to less than an hour while passing through important urban centers like Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar, as per the PMO’s statement.
