PM Narendra Modi in support of Women participation in politics: The NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently passed the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament. The issue of women’s reservation was pending for years. The previous government could not do this despite majority. This month, after giving the new Parliament building to the country, PM Modi proposed to pass women’s reservation, and more than 99% of the MPs supported it.
However, this was not the first time that Narendra Modi advocated women’s reservation, rather PM Narendra Modi had earlier also been in favor of giving representation to more and more women members in Parliament and Assemblies. Old newspapers are visible in two pictures shared on Twitter with the handle @modiarchive. Those newspapers are showing the news of Narendra Modi when even before becoming the Chief Minister and Prime Minister, Modi had been active in the organization and advocating the representation of women. The date is also visible on one of these newspapers – 24 April 2000.
Raised voice in favor of women’s reservation earlier also
Modi Archive’s tweet read, “PM Narendra Modi has always been in favor of greater representation of women in policy making. As General Secretary of the BJP, in 2000, Modi clearly supported the demand for women’s reservation for Parliament and state legislatures. However, in 2000, the bill was still being debated in committees, and there was no consensus, but the position taken by Modi was clear. Finally, 23 years later, with a near-unanimous vote in the Houses of Parliament, the bill became a reality.”
