Sharing a message on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described Varma as a brave son of Mother India whose revolutionary ideas ignited a new wave of awareness within the freedom struggle.

He said Varma’s life and ideals continue to inspire generations to serve the nation with dedication and commitment.

PM Modi emphasised that Varma’s journey exemplifies courage and determination, encouraging citizens to uphold their duty towards the country.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also paid homage, stating that Varma’s revolutionary efforts strengthened India’s resolve for independence and inspired numerous freedom fighters. He offered his respectful salutations in remembrance of the leader.

Born on October 4, 1857, in Mandvi, Gujarat, Varma worked as a revolutionary, lawyer, journalist, and patriot.

While in London, he founded the Indian Home Rule Society to encourage active resistance against British rule. He also established India House, which became a hub for Indian students and revolutionary ideas.

He launched The Indian Sociologist to promote nationalist ideology and motivate young Indians.

Varma also served as the first president of the Bombay Arya Samaj and influenced leaders such as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
