India Seeks Greater US Action On Pakistan Terror Networks

India has expressed concern over what it views as insufficient US attention to terrorism originating from Pakistan, according to a recent policy report that also urges the United States to respect New Delhi’s position on Kashmir.

The report, released by the Centre for a New American Security and titled ‘Repairing the Breach: Getting US-India Ties Back on Track’, highlights ongoing strategic mistrust despite cooperation in key areas.

Authored by Lisa Curtis, Keerthi Martyn, and Sitara Gupta, it notes that tensions from 2025 continue to affect bilateral relations.

The paper states that disagreements over the handling of an India-Pakistan ceasefire and US tariffs on Indian exports contributed to a downturn in ties.

While a February 2026 interim trade framework offers an opportunity to reset relations, rebuilding trust will require sustained diplomatic efforts.

It underscores that differences over Pakistan and terrorism remain a core challenge. India, the report says, remains dissatisfied with Washington’s approach, even after the designation of The Resistance Front as a terrorist organisation.

The report also reiterates India’s consistent opposition to third-party involvement in Kashmir, warning that any suggestion of mediation could further strain ties.

It recommends that the US avoid such proposals and instead focus on shared strategic interests.

Despite tensions, defence and economic cooperation continue to progress. Both countries renewed a 10-year defence framework, and a recent interim trade deal has reduced tariffs and encouraged sectoral growth.

The report highlights energy, minerals, pharma, AI, and semiconductors as key collaboration areas, noting India’s role in resilient supply chains amid reduced reliance on China.

It adds that stronger counterterrorism cooperation and sustained engagement are vital, with India central to Indo-Pacific stability.
