PM Modi Holds Phone Call With Donald Trump; Discusses Trade And Defence

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump over the phone on Wednesday, with the two leaders reviewing India-US cooperation in several key areas.

In a post on social media, PM Modi described the conversation as productive and said they reviewed bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas.

“We agreed to maintain close engagement to take our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership forward,” the post read.

The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues, including ongoing efforts to promote global peace and security.

The conversation comes as India and the US continue negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement.

The two countries have been working towards an interim trade pact while addressing differences over tariffs and market access. Their latest discussion covered areas of mutual interest and reflected continued high-level engagement between New Delhi and Washington.

PM Modi and Trump had earlier met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian in June 2026. During that meeting, they reviewed progress in defence, strategic technologies, energy and bilateral trade and welcomed developments in negotiations for an interim Bilateral Trade Agreement.

The latest phone conversation comes as both countries continue discussions on trade and seek to deepen cooperation across strategic sectors. It underlines their continued engagement on regional and international issues, including efforts related to peace and security.
