Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting at his residence in New Delhi on Saturday, following India’s targeted airstrikes on four Pakistani airbases.
Pakistan’s earlier attacks on 26 Indian military and civilian locations significantly escalated tensions along the border, prompting India to conduct retaliatory strikes.
The emergency meeting was attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The meeting focused on India’s strategic response, national defence posture, and continued vigilance in light of Pakistan’s escalating military actions and disinformation campaigns.
Earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sophia Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh jointly addressed a press conference to update the public on ongoing developments.
They clarified India’s position and presented evidence countering Pakistan’s false claims and provocative conduct.
Foreign Secretary Misri described Pakistan’s attacks as ‘escalatory’ and ‘provocative’, and reaffirmed India’s measured and responsible military response.
He dismissed Islamabad’s narrative, which alleged destruction of Indian military assets, as a malicious misinformation campaign.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh exposed Pakistan’s attempts to mislead the international community.
She debunked claims regarding damage to India’s advanced defence installations, including the S-400 system at Adhampur, the airfields at Suratgarh and Sirsa, and artillery positions in Chandigarh and Dehrangyari.
Singh labelled the claims as “false narratives” intended to erode public confidence and undermine India’s military strength.
Singh also warned of Pakistan’s intensified operations along the Line of Control (LoC), including attempted drone incursions and shelling with heavy-calibre artillery.
These attacks, she noted, posed direct threats to civilian infrastructure and had already caused casualties in border villages.
Reports emerged of heavy shelling and cross-border firing from several areas along the Pakistan border throughout Saturday. Indian forces remained on high alert as Pakistan continued to engage in hostile actions.
The Indian leadership, however, reiterated its commitment to protecting national sovereignty while avoiding unnecessary escalation.
As the situation develops, the Indian government continues to prioritise a firm yet measured military approach.
PM Modi’s meeting with top defence and security officials reflects the seriousness of the threat and India’s preparedness to deal with any further provocation.
The international community has been urged to hold Pakistan accountable for both its military aggression and its disinformation strategy.
