Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Thursday as part of the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit.
The meeting focused on reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and exploring new opportunities to strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and global developments, including economic security and the Indo-Pacific.
Before the talks began, Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed PM Takaichi at Hyderabad House.
The Japanese Prime Minister paid her respects by bowing to the national flags of India and Japan before both leaders proceeded to the meeting room, reflecting the close friendship between the two nations.
Earlier in the day, PM Takaichi received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan during her first official visit to India since taking office. She arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday evening, where Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh welcomed her.
Ahead of the summit, PM Takaichi prioritised strengthening the strategic partnership, enhancing economic security and boosting investment through closer business ties. She also confirmed that the Japan-India Joint Economic Forum, with over 150 Japanese companies, would promote trade and investment cooperation.
Highlighting the importance of the bilateral partnership, PM Takaichi said India and Japan share responsibility for maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. She expressed confidence that the summit would strengthen cooperation on a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), including through the Quad framework, while deepening mutual trust.
The summit reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Japan as both countries continue to expand cooperation across trade, technology, infrastructure, supply chains, defence and regional security, reinforcing their shared commitment to a stable, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
