Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a strong attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Grand Alliance (RJD–Congress), describing their partnership as incompatible, like oil and water.
Addressing a massive rally in Chhapra, Bihar, PM Modi referred to Gandhi’s remarks, including his claim that “PM Modi can dance for votes.” He said the comments revealed the Opposition’s internal discord rather than any genuine criticism of him personally.
PM Modi said the real story of this election lies in the Opposition’s infighting. “Reports from across Bihar reveal that RJD workers are tearing down Congress posters, while Congress workers are expressing hostility towards the RJD. Their lust for power alone holds their alliance together,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister accused both the RJD and Congress of betraying Bihar during their long years in power. He said they ruled the state for decades but failed to bring any real progress.
Recalling the ‘Jungle Raj’ Era
Referring to the 1998 Champa Biswas case, PM Modi said the incident symbolised the lawlessness of the RJD’s rule.
“Even the Chief Minister’s office had turned into a den of criminals,” he said, urging first-time voters to protect Bihar’s hard-won progress.
“Your parents’ votes freed Bihar from Jungle Raj. Now it is your turn to turn good governance into prosperity,” he told young voters.
PM Modi accused the Congress of repeatedly disrespecting Biharis across the country. “Congress leaders in Karnataka insult Bihar, DMK leaders in Tamil Nadu harass Biharis, and the RJD stays silent. A former Congress Chief Minister even said he would not allow Biharis into Punjab, and a Gandhi family member clapped in approval,” he claimed.
Praising Bihar’s cultural heritage, PM Modi hailed Bhojpuri legend Bhikari Thakur and the Chhath Mahaparv as emblems of the state’s enduring spirit.
He said the government is striving to include Chhath Mahaparv in UNESCO’s World Heritage list as a festival of humanity and accused the RJD–Congress alliance of mocking the festival and its devotees.
He added that during his visit to Trinidad and Tobago, he witnessed Bihar’s cultural influence abroad. People there welcomed him in Bhojpuri.
Concluding his address, PM Modi questioned the Opposition’s absence from Ayodhya. “After 500 years, the Ram Temple stands completed. Millions have gone for darshan, yet Congress and RJD leaders stay away, fearing loss of votes. Those who cannot respect faith can never build the nation,” he asserted.
