Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted India’s solar energy revolution, stating that the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is transforming lives and accelerating the nation’s transition to clean energy.
Speaking during the 132nd episode of Mann Ki Baat, he noted that solar adoption now thrives across both urban and rural India.
Rooftops in cities and villages increasingly feature solar panels, marking a visible shift from a few years ago when such installations were limited.
PM Modi shared inspiring success stories, including Payal Munjpara from Surendranagar, Gujarat.
After completing a four-month Solar PV technician course under the Surya Initiative, she now installs rooftop solar systems in neighbouring districts, earns a sustainable livelihood, and has emerged as a solar entrepreneur.
He also mentioned Arun Kumar from Meerut, who not only cuts his electricity expenses but also earns by selling surplus power.
Muralidhar from Jaipur has replaced his diesel-based irrigation system with a solar pump, enhancing farming efficiency, reducing costs, and improving his family’s quality of life.
The Prime Minister highlighted the scheme’s impact in remote areas, particularly the Northeast.
In Tripura, solar mini-grids illuminate villages of the Riang tribe, allowing children to study after dusk, powering homes, charging devices, and improving social life through reliable electricity access.
Emphasising the wider significance, PM Modi said these examples reflect a nationwide solar energy revolution transforming households, agriculture, and communities.
He urged citizens to join the movement, adopt renewable energy solutions, and inspire others to contribute to India’s clean energy future.
These stories demonstrate that community participation, technological training, and accessible solar solutions can create sustainable livelihoods, promote environmental responsibility, and accelerate India’s journey towards a greener, self-reliant nation.
