PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 in Mumbai.

He highlighted India’s emergence as a global hub for film production, digital content, gaming, fashion, and music.

PM Modi Highlights India As Creative Powerhouse

In his keynote address at the Jio World Convention Centre, PM Modi emphasised the growing significance of India’s creative economy, projecting a substantial increase in its contribution to the nation’s GDP in the coming years.

He noted the expanding opportunities in the live concert industry and the global animation market, which is currently valued at over USD 430 billion and is expected to double in the next decade.

PM Modi urged India’s young creators, from musicians in Guwahati to filmmakers in Punjab, to drive the nation’s ‘Orange Economy’ forward.

He assured them of the government’s support through initiatives like Skill India, Startup India, and policies for the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) industry.

WAVES 2025: A Platform For Innovation And Collaboration

The four-day summit, themed ‘Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries,’ aims to position India as a global leader in media, entertainment, and digital innovation.

It brings together over 10,000 delegates from more than 90 countries, including 1,000 creators, 300+ companies, and 350+ startups.

Key features of WAVES 2025 include:

  • Global Media Dialogue (GMD): Hosting ministers from 25 countries, marking India’s first such engagement.
  • WAVES Bazaar: A global e-marketplace connecting over 6,100 buyers, 5,200 sellers, and 2,100 projects.
  • Bharat Pavilion and Creatosphere: Showcasing India’s creative heritage and innovations from the “Create in India” challenges.

PM Modi Emphasises Creative Responsibility In Digital Age

PM Modi highlighted the importance of ‘Creative Responsibility’ in a technology-driven world.

He emphasised the need to preserve emotional sensitivity and cultural richness as technology increasingly influences human lives.

The goal, he said, is to nurture emotionally and intellectually rich individuals, not just machines.

India’s Path To $50 Billion Creative Economy

WAVES 2025 aligns with PM Modi’s vision by uniting films, OTT, gaming, digital media, AVGC-XR, AI, and emerging tech sectors.

The summit aims to unlock a $50 billion market by 2029, expanding India’s footprint in the global entertainment economy.
