Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), calling it the ‘modern Akshay Vat’ of India’s enduring culture.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre in Nagpur, he commended the RSS for its unyielding commitment to cultural preservation, selfless service, and nation-building.
“The RSS is the modern Akshay Vat of the immortal culture of India,” PM Modi stated, emphasizing that the organization has played a pivotal role in energizing the nation’s cultural consciousness.
He elaborated on the deep-rooted principles of the RSS, which have flourished over time, likening the organization to a ‘Vat Vriksh’ (Banyan tree).
He highlighted that the foundational ideas of RSS, planted a century ago, have now spread worldwide, with volunteers forming its vast branches.
Commitment To Service & Duty
PM Modi stressed that RSS volunteers embody the ideals of service, which he described as an intrinsic part of their identity.
“Our body is meant for charity, for service. When this service becomes part of our sanskaar (values), it transforms into sadhna (spiritual practice). This sadhna is the life breath of every volunteer,” he said.
He further added that the selfless service of RSS volunteers continuously drives them, ensuring they remain committed to their duties, regardless of the magnitude of the task.
RSS & India’s Cultural Heritage
Reflecting on India’s historical journey, PM Modi spoke of centuries of foreign invasions and attempts to erase the country’s social fabric.
Despite these challenges, India’s consciousness never faltered, and movements like the Bhakti movement provided new strength to the nation’s spirit.
He remarked that RSS continues to uphold this national consciousness, with its service and ideology inspiring generations of volunteers.
Madhav Netralaya: A Legacy Of Service
PM Modi also lauded Madhav Netralaya, an eye institute founded on the values of the RSS, which has been serving millions of people over decades.
He recalled how the institution embodies the teachings of Pujya Guruji Madhavrao Sadashivrao Golwalkar, the second Sarsanghchalak of RSS.
The prime minister praised the institution for its dedication to humanity and service.
RSS Centenary Celebrations
The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a significant time when the RSS is preparing to celebrate its centenary year, organizing various events throughout the year, starting with Vijayadasami Day.
PM Modi’s address underscored the role of RSS in shaping India’s cultural and social landscape over the last century.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi visited the Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir in Nagpur, paying respects at the memorials of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and MS Golwalkar, reinforcing the RSS’s role in India’s growth and its long-standing commitment to service.
