PM Modi Hails India’s Decade Of Progress In Wildlife Conservation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded India’s remarkable progress in wildlife conservation over the past decade, stating that the nation’s efforts to preserve biodiversity and restore natural habitats serve as a model for global environmental action.

Commending the work of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Prime Minister said that the initiatives undertaken in recent years have delivered measurable and lasting results for the country’s wildlife.

PMO shared on X an article authored by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, which detailed the government’s continuous commitment to protecting endangered species and restoring their habitats.

He wrote, “He highlights initiatives such as the Amrit Kaal Ka Tiger Vision (Tiger@2047), Project Snow Leopard, Project Cheetah and Project Dolphin, which provide hope and optimism for wildlife conservation.”

The government published the article to mark the conclusion of Wildlife Week 2025, celebrating India’s ongoing success in striking a balance between development and ecological preservation.

India Leads in Species Recovery Efforts

In his article, Minister Yadav noted India’s leadership in wildlife recovery, highlighting that the country has become the first in the world to compile a comprehensive checklist of 102,718 species across ten biogeographic zones.

He also revealed that the tiger population has risen by over 30 per cent in the past decade, reaching 3,682,  accounting for 70 per cent of the global tiger population. Such achievements, he added, reflect India’s deep-rooted cultural and ecological respect for the natural world.

The Ministry of Environment, along with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), and Forest Research Institute (FRI), organised the Wildlife Week 2025 celebrations.

Presiding over the event, Yadav urged citizens and organisations to strengthen partnerships for conservation, emphasising that wildlife protection is not just a governmental duty but a shared national responsibility to ensure harmony between people and nature.
