PM Modi Extends Statehood Day Greetings To Manipur, Tripura & Meghalaya

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended warm and heartfelt greetings to the people of Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya on the occasion of their Statehood Day, expressing hope that the states would continue to scale new heights of development in the years ahead.

Manipur, Tripura, and Meghalaya were granted full statehood on January 21, 1972, under the North Eastern Areas Reorganisation Act, 1971.

Since then, the nation observes January 21 annually as Statehood Day to honour their journey, celebrate their rich cultural heritage, and recognise their contributions to India.

In a message shared on X, Prime Minister Modi greeted the people of Manipur, highlighting the state’s role in enriching India’s progress.

He highlighted Manipur’s widely admired passion for sports, culture, and nature and expressed optimism that the state would continue progressing on the path of development.

The Prime Minister greeted Tripura, describing its journey as a blend of tradition and modernity, and noted its people’s significant contributions to India’s growth.

PM Modi expressed hope that the state would prosper further in the coming times.

PM Modi also conveyed heartfelt greetings to the people of Meghalaya, praising their strong contributions to national development.

He highlighted the state’s cultural vibrancy and scenic beauty, expressing confidence that Meghalaya would continue to achieve new milestones in the future.

At the time of Independence, much of the northeastern region comprised the Assam plains, hilly areas and princely states such as Manipur and Tripura, which joined India in 1949.

Initially accorded Union Territory status in 1956, both later achieved full statehood in 1972. Meghalaya, earlier part of Assam, gained autonomy in 1969 before becoming a full-fledged state in the same year.
