Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a tragic bus accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for those injured.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister’s Office said the incident was ‘deeply painful’ and confirmed that financial assistance would be provided to those affected.
The government announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased. It also declared ₹50,000 for those injured in the accident.

The collision took place when a Bolero vehicle carrying pilgrims crashed into a ready-mix lorry, leading to a severe impact that left several passengers trapped and critically injured.
Officials confirmed that eight people lost their lives in the incident. Five died on the spot, while three others succumbed to injuries later in the hospital. Around 10 to 12 people sustained injuries and were shifted to Emmiganur hospital for treatment.
Authorities said many of the victims were pilgrims from Karnataka who were travelling to the Mantralayam temple when the accident occurred.
Police teams reached the site shortly after the crash and carried out rescue operations, including the evacuation of the injured and clearance of the wreckage.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the exact cause of the collision. Officials are awaiting further details as the probe continues.
