Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed his heartfelt condolences over the untimely passing of Agnivesh Agarwal, son of Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal, describing the loss as ‘deeply shocking and saddening’.
PM Modi responded to the announcement, offering prayers for the family and emphasising the depth of their grief.
“Praying that you and your family find continued strength and courage. Om Shanti,” he said. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also expressed sorrow, calling it an ‘irreparable loss’ and offering prayers for Agnivesh’s soul.

Anil Agarwal announced the demise of his 49-year-old son via X, stating that Agnivesh ‘left us far too soon’.
He revealed that Agnivesh had been recovering from a skiing accident in the United States at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. “We believed the worst was behind us, but fate had other plans,” Anil Agarwal said.

Agnivesh Agarwal, an alumnus of Mayo College, Ajmer, founded Fujairah Gold and later became Chairman of Hindustan Zinc.
His father highlighted their shared vision of giving back to society, aiming to ensure no child goes hungry, every woman stands independently, and young Indians have access to meaningful work.
“I had promised Agni that more than 75 per cent of what we earn would be given back to society. Today, I renew that promise,” Anil Agarwal added.
The news has resonated across social and mainstream media, with leaders and citizens alike offering messages of support to the Agarwal family. Agnivesh’s sudden passing has been described as a tragic loss to both his family and the business community.
