During his visit to Chennai for election-related engagements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met noted composer Ramesh Vinayakam and interacted with his family, where the discussion centred on innovations in Indian classical music.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “In the midst of election campaigning, had the opportunity to meet Thiru Ramesh Vinayakam Ji and his family in Chennai. Ramesh Ji is a music composer and has devoted his life to popularising Indian music. He gave me a glimpse of his work in making the Gamaka Box Notation System. This is an innovative way to take Indian music to the world!”

The composer introduced the Prime Minister to the Gamaka Box Notation System, a framework he developed to digitally represent and preserve traditional musical elements.
The system combines classical knowledge with modern tools, enabling wider documentation and accessibility.
According to Vinayakam, the approach aims to build a structured archive of Indian music using emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
During the interaction, PM Modi also took part in a brief musical demonstration, attempting to play Vande Mataram on a digital device under the composer’s guidance.
The session, however, concluded with a live performance, which drew appreciation from those present.
Vinayakam has been recognised for efforts to bridge traditional music practices with contemporary technology, with his notation system seen as a step towards expanding the global reach of Indian classical forms.
