Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a roundtable discussion with leading Indian artificial intelligence start-ups, highlighting the sector’s growing role in shaping India’s technological and economic future.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, brought together 12 Indian AI start-ups that have qualified for the AI for ALL: Global Impact Challenge, to be featured at the upcoming India AI Impact Summit 2026.

The participating firms showcased work across a wide range of domains. These included healthcare diagnostics, multilingual large language models (LLMs), and speech-to-text and text-to-video technologies. They also presented innovations in engineering simulations, material research, and advanced data analytics.

Several start-ups are also developing generative AI solutions for e-commerce, marketing and personalised content creation.

During the interaction, start-up leaders underlined the rapid expansion of the AI ecosystem in India. They also pointed to the country’s growing importance in global AI innovation and deployment.

They said India now offers a strong and enabling environment for artificial intelligence development, signalling a shift in the global centre of gravity towards the country.

The start-ups also praised the government’s commitment to nurturing the AI ecosystem and placing India firmly on the global technology map.

PM Stresses Ethical and Inclusive AI

Prime Minister Modi described AI entrepreneurs and start-ups as ‘co-architects of India’s future’, emphasising the nation’s capacity for innovation as well as large-scale implementation.

He said India should present a distinctive AI model to the world that reflects the vision of ‘Made in India, Made for the World’.

Highlighting global trust in India as a key strength, the Prime Minister stressed that Indian AI systems must remain ethical, unbiased, transparent and rooted in data privacy principles.

He also encouraged start-ups to focus on affordable and inclusive AI solutions, promoting frugal innovation on a global scale.

The Prime Minister further suggested that Indian AI models should actively promote local and indigenous content, including regional languages, to ensure broader social impact and accessibility.

PM Modi assured participants of the government’s full support for the success of Indian AI ventures.

Senior representatives from companies including Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Sarvam, Tech Mahindra and Zenteiq attended the meeting, along with Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada.

The discussions took place ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, where India is set to assume a significant global leadership role in artificial intelligence.
