Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, firmly rejecting claims that any world leader, including US President Donald Trump, influenced India’s decision to halt Operation Sindoor.
The military operation, which ran from 7 to 10 May, targeted terrorist bases and strategic infrastructure in Pakistan.
PM Modi’s remarks came in response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s demand that he deny US pressure in Parliament.
In a pointed response, PM Modi dismissed suggestions of third-party involvement in the de-escalation, calling the claims ‘baseless’ and politically motivated.
Moreover, his statement drew loud cheers and desk-thumping from the treasury benches.
“No world leader asked us to stop. The operation concluded only after achieving its military objectives,” PM Modi asserted.
Pakistan Pleaded for Ceasefire, Says PM
Highlighting the effectiveness of India’s strikes, PM Modi revealed that the decision to cease operations came after a request from Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO).
Quoting the Pakistani official, he said, “Bahut mara, ab jyada maar jhelne ki takat nahi hai. Please hamla rok do” — loosely translated as “We’ve taken enough damage, please stop the attack.”
PM Modi further emphasised that the Indian Armed Forces acted with precision and restraint, ensuring that the conflict did not escalate beyond its goals.
PM Modi also mocked the repeated claims of foreign mediation, calling them part of a narrative disconnected from reality.
His remarks were seen as a clear attempt to set the record straight after Rahul Gandhi alleged that the US President claimed credit for brokering peace in exchange for a trade deal.
Moreover, describing the operation as a ‘textbook execution of military precision’, PM Modi said that Indian forces neutralised key terror hubs within Pakistani territory.
He further disclosed that from 6 to 10 May, Pakistan launched around 1,000 drones and missiles, all of which were intercepted and destroyed by Indian defence systems — a first-ever public acknowledgement of the scale of the confrontation.
Concluding his statement, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s unwavering stand on national sovereignty.
“India will decide its course of action. No external power can dictate our military decisions,” he said, reiterating that Operation Sindoor was a response to terror, not a pursuit of war.
