PM Modi, Danish PM Hold Telephonic Call To Strengthen Green Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen held a phone conversation on Tuesday, during which they vowed once again to deepen the Green Strategic Partnership between India and Denmark.

The two leaders pledged enhanced cooperation across several sectors, including trade, investment, innovation, energy, water management, food processing, and sustainable development.

PM Modi posted on the social media platform X that he had a ‘very good conversation’ with PM Frederiksen, during which they reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening the partnership and fast‑tracking the India‑EU Free Trade Agreement.

He also conveyed best wishes for Denmark’s presidency of the Council of the European Union and its non‑permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council. The call also covered global concerns, including their mutual interest in ending the conflict in Ukraine peacefully.

Key Areas of Cooperation

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders discussed important regional and global issues.

PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent support for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and stability in the region.

PM Frederiksen underlined Denmark’s strong support for the early conclusion of a mutually advantageous India‑EU Free Trade Agreement and the success of India’s planned AI Impact Summit in 2026.

Discussions also covered collaboration in energy, particularly in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and energy storage. Water management, food processing, innovation, and trade and investment were identified as priority areas under the partnership.

This latest exchange builds on existing cooperation under the India‑Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, which has already facilitated joint work in fields such as water, environment, and renewable energy.

Both sides noted the progress made under this framework and agreed to intensify investments and regulatory support to facilitate green technologies, climate action, and sustainable growth.

Global and Diplomatic Implications

PM Modi offered congratulations to Denmark for assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and for its non‑permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.

Both leaders reiterated their desire for stronger multilateral engagement, emphasised shared democratic values, and exchanged views on global challenges, including climate change and food security.

PM Modi and PM Frederiksen committed to maintaining high‑level interaction and ensuring that their shared vision translates into concrete outcomes.

By embracing renewable energy technologies, green trade policies, and innovation, both nations aim to set an example of how countries can balance growth with environmental responsibility.

They reaffirmed that the Green Strategic Partnership is not merely symbolic; it is central to achieving climate goals, fostering sustainable development, and scaling cooperation that serves both people and planet.
