Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surpassed 100 million followers on Instagram, becoming the first serving world leader and politician to achieve the milestone on the social media platform.
Since joining Instagram in 2014, Prime Minister Modi has developed one of the most active and widely followed digital platforms among global leaders.
Over the past decade, his presence has expanded steadily, reflecting a sustained outreach strategy aimed at audiences in India and abroad.
Among international leaders, PM Modi currently has the largest Instagram follower base. His following is more than double that of US President Donald Trump.
Trump ranks second with 43.2 million followers. He is followed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto with 15 million, Brazilian President Lula with 14.4 million, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with 11.6 million, and Argentine President Javier Milei with 6.4 million followers.
The combined total of the next five major world leaders does not exceed Modi’s individual tally.
On X, PM Modi has 106.2 million followers, while on Facebook, he has 54 million.
Within India, Prime Minister Modi continues to hold a significant lead over other political leaders on Instagram.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ranks second with around 16.1 million followers, followed by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with approximately 12.6 million.
As of December 2025, PM Modi recorded the highest approval rating among world leaders. According to Statista, he holds a 70 per cent approval rating.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi stands second at 63 per cent, followed by Milei at 60 per cent, while Trump ranks 11th at 43 per cent.
Data collected between February 2 and February 8, 2026, by Morning Consult shows PM Modi leading with a 67 per cent approval rating, with Trump ranked 11th at 40 per cent.
