PM Modi Criticises Mahagathbandhan; Labels 1990–2005 As Bihar’s ‘Zero Development’ Era

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) during a rally in Araria, releasing a ‘report card’ for Bihar’s 15-year rule from 1990 to 2005.

He claimed the period was marked by ‘zero development’, with no expressways, bridges over the Kosi, tourist circuits, sports complexes, medical colleges, IITs, or IIMs.

Describing the 1990s as a phase of ‘guns, cruelty, bitterness, corruption and misgovernance’, PM Modi accused the Grand Alliance of turning these years into Bihar’s defining identity, damaging the future of an entire generation.

The Prime Minister also drew attention to apparent rifts within the Grand Alliance. “Congress has fielded its deputy chief ministerial candidate against the RJD, claiming Dalits, Mahadalits and EBCs suffered the most,” the PM said. “This is just the beginning. After the results, Congress and RJD will tear each other apart.”

Emphasising his accountability to the people, PM Modi said, “Those who ruled then called themselves benefactors and emperors. But I am Modi, my benefactors are you, the people. You are my master, you are my remote control.”

Double-Engine Government Accelerates Development

PM Modi highlighted achievements under the NDA and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying development accelerated after the 2014 formation of the ‘double-engine government’.

Key projects include IIT Patna, IIM Bodh Gaya, AIIMS Patna, the upcoming AIIMS Darbhanga, a National Law University, IIIT Bhagalpur, and four central universities.

The Prime Minister further alleged that infiltrators pose a serious threat to national security and accused the RJD and Congress of protecting them.

PM Modi also criticised a Congress leader for reportedly insulting Chhath, calling it ‘drama’, and stated that Bihar’s women would not allow the return of ‘jungle raj’.

On polling, he observed high voter enthusiasm in the first phase, especially among women and youth, interpreting it as strong support for the NDA. “Only one voice is coming from across Bihar, once again NDA,” he said.
