Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated development projects worth around ₹12,930 crore in Meerut on Sunday, marking a significant boost to regional infrastructure and urban mobility.
He also flagged off the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat train at Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station, underlining the government’s focus on connectivity and modern transport in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Addressing a public gathering, PM Modi said, “In this divine land of Baba Augharnath and revolutionary Meerut, today’s projects give new energy to the vision of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Uttar Pradesh. The Metro ensures internal city connectivity, while the Namo Bharat train accelerates the twin cities’ development.”

During his metro ride to Meerut South Station, the Prime Minister spoke with students and passengers, noting safer travel from improved law and order.
He highlighted Namo Bharat Rapid Rail as a symbol of Nari Shakti, with daughters working as train operators and station staff, and praised the people of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, recalling his 2014, 2019, and 2024 election campaigns in Meerut.
PM Modi took aim at the Opposition, stating, “SP, BSP and Congress continued toxic politics instead of focusing on development. The BJP prioritised India’s growth, as seen in projects like the Meerut Metro.”
He contrasted slow metro growth under Congress, when only five cities had networks, with the BJP’s expansion to over 25 cities, making India the world’s third-largest metro system.
He added that past schemes relied on imported technology and faced scams, while the BJP delivered high-speed connectivity and promoted Aatmabirbharta.
PM Modi emphasised the government’s focus on development, connectivity, women’s empowerment, and a self-reliant India, with infrastructure as a key driver of progress.
