Special and Privileged Partnership
During their phone conversation, Modi and Putin discussed enhancing the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. They also reviewed progress on various bilateral issues and exchanged views on regional and global matters. Modi reaffirmed India’s stance on favoring dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
India-Russia Ties
India has a longstanding partnership with Russia, particularly in defense. Following the Ukraine war in 2022, India increased its imports of fuel from Russia. Despite Western sanctions, India reiterated its commitment to making decisions on Russian oil imports based on its national interest, while also advocating for an end to hostilities.
