Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to Andy Burnham after he assumed office as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi said India values its close relationship with the UK, built on shared democratic ideals and extensive cooperation across several sectors. He said both countries have developed strong partnerships in trade, investment, technology, defence and people-to-people exchanges.
PM Modi said the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) this month will further enhance cooperation between the two nations. He added that he looks forward to working with Prime Minister Burnham to advance the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and achieve the goals outlined in the shared Vision 2035 roadmap.

The UK’s Labour Party officially confirmed Andy Burnham as its new leader after he secured the required number of nominations from party lawmakers.
Burnham, who previously served as the Mayor of Greater Manchester, succeeded Keir Starmer as Prime Minister after Starmer stepped down in line with the party’s transition process.
Speaking at the Trades Union Congress headquarters in London, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said Burnham received the backing of 379 Labour Members of Parliament.
As the only candidate to meet the nomination requirement, Burnham became Labour leader without the need for a vote by party members.
Burnham returned to the House of Commons after winning the Makerfield by-election, the result of which was announced on June 19.
Keir Starmer resigned as Labour leader on June 22 and continued as Prime Minister until his successor formally took office.
India and the United Kingdom will expand cooperation across strategic, economic and diplomatic sectors under Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s leadership.
