Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his congratulations to Anthony Albanese following his re-election as Prime Minister of Australia, hailing it as a ‘resounding victory’ and a testament to the enduring trust of the Australian people.
In a post on a social media platform, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his warm wishes and reiterated India’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation.
“Congratulations @AlboMP on your resounding victory and re-election as Prime Minister of Australia! This emphatic mandate indicates the enduring faith of the Australian people in your leadership. I look forward to working together to further deepen the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and advance our shared vision for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific,” PM Modi posted on X.
His message signals continued momentum in India-Australia relations, particularly in areas of defence, trade, and regional cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
Earlier in the day, Anthony Albanese declared victory in Australia’s general election, becoming the first Prime Minister in more than two decades to secure consecutive terms in office—an achievement last accomplished by John Howard, according to Al Jazeera.
In a brief yet heartfelt post on X, Albanese stated, “Thank you, Australia.”
Addressing supporters at the Labor Party’s headquarters in Sydney, Albanese delivered a speech centred on optimism, economic resilience, and national unity.

“In this time of global uncertainty, Australians have chosen optimism and determination,” he declared, as cheers echoed through the venue. “Australians have chosen to face global challenges the Australian way—looking after each other while building for the future.”
He further emphasised plans to invest in both younger and older Australians, promising inclusive governance and economic foresight.
At one point during the victory speech, the crowd began to boo opposition leader Peter Dutton. However, Albanese quickly intervened, urging supporters to refrain from such behaviour.
“This is not the Australian way,” he said, reinforcing his message of respectful politics and national unity.
Opposition leader Peter Dutton, who lost his own seat of Dickson to Labor candidate Ali France, became the first federal opposition leader in Australia to lose their seat during an election.
He addressed his supporters shortly after, announcing that he had called Albanese to offer his congratulations.
“I accept full responsibility for the result,” Dutton said, acknowledging the defeat and the voters’ verdict.
