Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for New Delhi on Thursday after completing a successful visit to Croatia, marking the final leg of his three-nation tour.
This historic trip the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia underscored a growing partnership and marked a significant milestone in bilateral relations.
Three-Nation diplomatic tour
Prime Minister Modi’s diplomatic itinerary began with a visit to Cyprus, followed by his participation in the G7 Summit in Canada.
He concluded the tour with a landmark stop in Croatia, which proved pivotal in enhancing ties with the European nation.

During his stay in Croatia, Prime Minister Modi received a ceremonial welcome in the capital city of Zagreb. He was greeted with enthusiasm by both the Croatian government and the public.

Productive talks with croatian counterpart
On Wednesday, PM Modi held comprehensive talks with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. In a joint press statement, PM Modi emphasised that the two nations had made several key decisions to expand cooperation across sectors such as:
- Defence and security
- Pharmaceuticals and agriculture
- Information technology
- Renewable energy and technology
- Shipbuilding and semiconductors
- Connectivity and mobility
New defence and academic collaborations
One of the most notable outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to develop a Defence Cooperation Plan, aimed at ensuring long-term collaboration in the sector. The leaders also highlighted the importance of joint research initiatives and greater academic exchange between institutions in both countries.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi pledged to share India’s experience and expertise in space technology with Croatian partners.

PM Modi expressed appreciation for the rich heritage of Zagreb, acknowledging his Croatian counterpart’s personal gesture of showing him the city’s historic centre.
“Grateful to my friend, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, for the special gesture of showing me the city centre of the historical and culturally rich city of Zagreb,” he posted.
Reflecting on the broader relationship, PM Modi noted that both countries share democratic values, pluralism, and a commitment to the rule of law.
“It is a happy coincidence that the people of both India and Croatia have, last year, elected us to serve a third consecutive term,” he added.
