Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Thursday and directed all possible measures to safeguard Indian citizens and the overseas Indian community from the impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict.

The CCS reviewed the evolving geopolitical situation and assessed steps taken by various Ministries and Departments to secure energy supplies, fertiliser availability and the safety of Indian seafarers operating in conflict-affected regions.

Officials reviewed fertiliser requirements for the upcoming Rabi season. They also discussed alternative procurement sources to ensure uninterrupted availability.

The Prime Minister instructed authorities to maintain a continuous fertiliser supply across the country.

The CCS also examined the safety of seafarers serving on Indian and foreign-flagged vessels amid attacks on commercial ships in the Middle East.

PM Modi directed the government to establish a dedicated mechanism to provide timely information, emergency assistance and counselling to seafarers and their families.

The Prime Minister stressed the need to accelerate India’s energy independence by expanding renewable energy, including solar power and other non-fossil fuel sources. He also called for a whole-of-government approach to address challenges arising from the regional crisis.

PM Modi instructed officials to establish a unified coordination mechanism for continuous monitoring and swift implementation of measures protecting national interests.

The Cabinet Secretary briefed the CCS on the geopolitical situation and outlined initiatives to ensure adequate supplies of petroleum products, LNG, LPG and fertilisers. He said diversified LPG procurement and sufficient crude oil availability have enabled CPSE refineries to operate above 100 per cent capacity.

The Cabinet Secretary added that the government continues expanding PNG connections, the National Gas Grid, LNG infrastructure, City Gas Distribution networks and pipeline connectivity under the Pipeline Infrastructure Order, 2026.
