On the occasion of Ayurveda Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the nation on Tuesday. He expressed optimism that Ayurveda, one of the world’s oldest medicinal systems, will continue to support the health and well-being of humanity worldwide.
Ayurveda Day, celebrated annually on 29 October, aims to promote awareness of Ayurveda’s principles, herbal remedies, and lifestyle practices.
The theme for 2024, ‘Ayurveda Innovations for Global Health’, underscores the potential of Ayurveda in tackling modern health challenges.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Wishing all citizens a very happy Ayurveda Day. This auspicious occasion of Lord Dhanvantari’s birth anniversary is a tribute to the utility and contributions of Ayurveda in our great culture – a significance that is now recognized worldwide. I am confident that this ancient system of medicine will continue to serve humanity, promoting a life of health and wellness for all.”
Since Ayurveda Day’s inception in 2016, its international prominence has steadily increased, with this year’s celebration involving more than 150 countries.
The 2024 theme highlights the extensive research conducted within Ayurveda, focusing on integrating it into global health frameworks.
According to the Ministry of Ayush, Ayurveda Day 2024 will focus on critical health concerns such as combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs), addressing mental and geriatric health, and promoting nutritional well-being.
These goals align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Universal Health Coverage (UHC), underscoring Ayurveda’s role in preventive care and holistic health.
This year’s celebrations will also emphasize women’s health, wellness in workplaces and schools, and food innovations grounded in Ayurvedic principles.
Currently, 24 countries across the globe recognize the ancient system of medicine, and over 100 countries import Ayurveda products.
Additionally, this year’s observance includes a push for innovation in the Ayurvedic sector, with significant involvement from startups and industry, further establishing Ayurveda as a key player in global health solutions.
On this occasion, PM Modi is likely to inaugurate several health sector projects valued at over Rs 12,850 crore, highlighting India’s dedication to making Ayurveda an integral part of accessible healthcare for all.
