PM Modi Celebrates 11 Years Of Defence Reforms & Self-Reliance

PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday marked the 11-year journey of defence reforms in India by highlighting the nation’s achievements in modernisation and self-reliance.

Taking to the social media platform, PM Modi emphasised the progress made since 2014, when his first term began.

“The last 11 years have marked significant changes in our defence sector, with a clear focus on both modernisation and becoming self reliant when it comes to defence production. It is gladdening to see how the people of India have come together with the resolve of making India stronger!” PM Modi posted on X.

India moves from importer to exporter under PM Modi’s leadership

Over the past decade, India has transitioned from a country heavily dependent on defence imports to one that now exports arms and defence technologies to over 100 countries.

Under PM Modi’s leadership, the government has focused on indigenisation, innovation, and enhancing strategic capabilities.

The Ministry of Defence echoed this transformation through a detailed post on X.

Over the past 11 years, under PM @narendramodi’s visionary leadership, India’s defence sector has transformed from import-dependent to a global exporter, powered by #AatmanirbharBharat & #MakeInIndia. Indigenous innovations like #brahmosmissile & advanced submarines have fortified our security and global standing. Defence exports now reach 100+ countries, marking a historic rise in #selfreliance. As we celebrate #11YearsOfRakshaShakti, we salute the strides toward a safer, stronger India,” the ministry stated.

Major milestones in defence modernisation recorded

India has achieved several major milestones in the last 11 years. These include:

  • Defence exports crossing ₹21,000 crore, a record high for the country.
  • Successful deployment of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, showcasing India’s missile technology capabilities.
  • Commissioning of INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier.
  • Development of the HAL Tejas, a homegrown fighter jet, has now been inducted into the Indian Air Force.

These developments, however, mark a clear shift toward self-sufficiency in defence manufacturing and reflect India’s rising stature in global defence markets.

‘11 years of Raksha Shakti’ celebrations reflect self-reliance vision

The nationwide celebration of ’11 Years Of Raksha Shakti’ aligns with India’s long-term goal of building a robust, indigenous defence ecosystem.

Flagship initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India have accelerated the pace of domestic production and reduced reliance on foreign suppliers.

Officials and experts believe these reforms have not only strengthened national security but have also positioned India as a global defence partner capable of innovation, production, and export.

The campaign celebrates not just policy shifts but a broader national commitment to building a safer and stronger India through self-reliant defence capabilities.
