PM Narendra Modi on Friday lauded the launch of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY) in Delhi, calling it a ‘revolutionary step’ in transforming the national capital’s healthcare landscape.
He credited the move to the efforts of the ‘double-engine’ BJP government.
As part of the official launch of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) in Delhi, authorities issued Ayushman Bharat cards to 19 residents on Thursday, including 11 women and 8 men, marking the first wave of beneficiaries in the city.
PM Expresses Joy Over Delhi’s Inclusion in PM-JAY
Prime Minister Modi took to social media to share his thoughts on the launch.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “A revolutionary step related to Delhi’s health sector! This mission of the double-engine government is going to be extremely beneficial for lakhs of my brothers and sisters here. I am very happy that Delhiites will now also be able to get their treatment under the Ayushman Yojana.”

Delhi Becomes 35th Region To Join PM-JAY
The rollout of PM-JAY in Delhi follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 5, enabling the scheme’s implementation in the national capital.
With this move, Delhi becomes the 35th state or Union Territory to adopt the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
What Is PM-JAY?
Launched in 2018, PM-JAY is a component of the broader PM-ABHIM initiative.
It provides annual health coverage of ₹5 lakh per family for secondary and tertiary care in hospitals.
The scheme primarily targets economically vulnerable populations and is currently recognized as the world’s largest government-funded healthcare program.
Expanded Healthcare Access For Delhi’s Poor
The inclusion of Delhi in the scheme significantly enhances healthcare access for low-income families in the capital.
With free coverage for major medical treatments, the program aims to ease the financial burden of healthcare for thousands of Delhiites and ensure timely access to quality hospital care.
