Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday described the current period as a ‘golden and opportune moment’ for Delhi to accelerate its growth.
He emphasised that the alignment of the ruling parties in the national capital and its neighbouring states provides a unique opportunity to unlock Delhi’s full potential.
PM Modi addressed a public gathering after inaugurating two major national highway projects: the Delhi sections of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Dwarka Expressway.
He spoke about Delhi’s growth potential and the opportunities ahead for the national capital.
The PM said that the BJP governments in Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, which surround Delhi, are aligned in their approach. This alignment enables coordinated development and paves the way for exponential growth.
PM Modi recalled the ‘poisoning Delhi’ controversy during the previous AAP administration. He noted that attempts to create differences between residents of Delhi and neighbouring states had hindered progress.
PM Modi contrasted this with the current environment, which he said fosters harmony and collaboration.
Good Governance & Civic Initiatives
The Prime Minister praised the newly elected Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for prioritising good governance.
He commended the administration’s swift action on public issues, particularly the accelerated Yamuna cleaning project.
“I am told that 16 lakh metric tonnes of silt have been removed so far,” he said, highlighting the tangible results of these initiatives.
PM Modi noted that authorities have deployed 650 Devi electric buses on Delhi roads and plan to expand the fleet to over 2,000 buses.
“This is an endeavour towards clean and green Delhi,” he added, pointing out the contrast with inefficiencies under previous administrations.
The Prime Minister underlined the strategic importance of the UER-II and Dwarka Expressway projects. He said the new highways will significantly:
- Enhance connectivity,
- Decongest traffic, and
- Reduce travel time for commuters across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR)
These projects, worth nearly Rs 11,000 crore, represent a major leap forward in the city’s infrastructure development.
Concluding his address, PM Modi reaffirmed the commitment of the central and state governments to ensure Delhi’s steady, multi-faceted growth.
He highlighted the importance of infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and good governance as key pillars for the city’s transformation.
These efforts aim to turn Delhi into a model capital that reflects India’s broader development aspirations.
