PM Modi & Leaders Remember Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya; Call Him A Guiding Light For Viksit Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid glowing tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya (1916–1968) on his birth anniversary, hailing him as a guiding light in India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi described Upadhyaya as ‘a great son of Mother India and the pioneer of Integral Humanism’, adding that his nationalist ideas and the principle of Antyodaya—upliftment of the poorest—remain central to building a prosperous India.

In a video message, PM Modi said, “Today, several people consider Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya a source of inspiration and follow his path. I believe that when one thinks, talks, or listens about Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and his thoughts, he/she might see a freshness and a new viewpoint in his thinking.”

Tributes from Union Leaders

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid homage, describing Upadhyaya as the ‘proponent of Integral Humanism’.

He noted that Upadhyaya viewed the individual, society, and nation as an indivisible whole, advocating not only economic growth but also moral and cultural upliftment.

“Through the philosophy of Integral Humanism, Deendayal Ji regarded the individual, society, and nation as a holistic unit, emphasizing not only economic progress but also moral and cultural upliftment. Through the Jana Sangh, he provided a political alternative that places the interests of the nation above all. Deendayal Ji’s principles of ‘Cultural Nationalism’ and ‘Antyodaya’ are an inspiration to every patriot,” Shah said.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda remembered him as a ‘great nationalist thinker’ who upheld the highest ideals of integrity in public life.

Nadda observed that Upadhyaya’s ideas on Antyodaya and public service remain critical for building a strong and self-reliant India. He also joined the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign to mark the occasion.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh too offered his respects, stating that Upadhyaya’s life was ‘an unparalleled example of service, dedication, and patriotism’.

Singh highlighted that Integral Humanism and the philosophy of Antyodaya serve as enduring inspirations for an inclusive, resilient, and self-reliant nation.

A Legacy of Integral Humanism

Upadhyaya, a leading thinker, economist, and organiser of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, is best remembered for his philosophy of Integral Humanism (Ekatma Manav Darshan), which sought harmony between the individual, society, and nature, and emphasised holistic development rooted in Indian cultural values.

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya led the Bharatiya Jana Sangh until his untimely and mysterious death in 1968.

His doctrine of Integral Humanism continues to resonate as a uniquely Indian model of development, balancing material progress with cultural and spiritual growth.

As the nation commemorates his birth anniversary, leaders across the spectrum recalled his vision of nation-building, rooted in cultural identity, moral responsibility, and the empowerment of the last citizen.

His life and philosophy remain guiding forces in shaping India’s socio-political journey towards Viksit Bharat.
