Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday began his three-day State Visit to Seychelles to participate in the island nation’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour.
The visit is expected to reinforce the close partnership and longstanding friendship between the two countries.
Ahead of his departure, the Prime Minister said the visit would provide fresh momentum to maritime collaboration while supporting the shared objective of maintaining a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
PM Modi described Seychelles as one of India’s trusted maritime neighbours and an important partner under the Vision MAHASAGAR initiative, while reaffirming both countries’ commitment to advancing the interests of the Global South.
Highlighting a major milestone, PM Modi noted that India and Seychelles are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2026. He said the partnership has flourished through confidence, democratic ideals, respect for diversity, and enduring people-to-people connections.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold delegation-level talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie to review ongoing cooperation and identify new opportunities for collaboration. He will also become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Seychelles National Assembly, describing it as a significant reflection of the democratic values shared by both nations.
PM Modi will also meet members of the Indian community in Seychelles and acknowledge their longstanding role in strengthening bilateral ties and fostering closer cultural connections between the two nations.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the visit would elevate India-Seychelles relations, deepen maritime cooperation and promote greater peace, security and prosperity across the Indian Ocean region.
