PM Modi Announces Rs 2 Lakh Compensation For Victims Of Delhi-Agra Expressway Pile-Up

At least 13 people were killed, and several were injured in a 10-vehicle collision on the Delhi-Agra Expressway on Tuesday morning.

The accident involved seven buses and three cars, which crashed amid dense fog in the early hours, causing several vehicles to catch fire.

“The loss of lives due to a mishap on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, is extremely painful. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) posted on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief  Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed condolences and confirmed the same compensation for victims and their families.

Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh stated that the fire completely charred eight buses, including a state-run vehicle, and two cars.

Hospitals admitted a total of 70 injured people, and authorities transferred two to Agra Medical College for advanced treatment.

Earlier reports from Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar had confirmed four deaths and 25 injuries, highlighting the evolving situation on the ground.

This tragic accident follows a similar pile-up on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Monday, also caused by dense fog. That collision involved around 20 vehicles and resulted in four fatalities, including two police personnel, and 15–20 injuries.

Officials warn that extremely low visibility during the winter months significantly increases the risk of road accidents, urging motorists to exercise caution and drive safely during foggy conditions.
