PM Modi Announces Higher Rabi MSP For 2027-28 To Strengthen Farmer Incomes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Cabinet approval for higher Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all six mandated Rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season.

The decision seeks to strengthen farmer incomes and ensure remunerative prices for their produce.

The revised MSP structure gives larger increases to pulses and oilseeds. Wheat MSP will rise by ₹25 to ₹2,610 per quintal.

Safflower will receive the biggest increase of ₹675, taking its MSP to ₹7,215 per quintal. Rapeseed and mustard MSP will rise by ₹413 to ₹6,613. Lentil MSP will increase by ₹390 to ₹7,390 per quintal.

The latest revisions follow the government’s policy of keeping MSP at least 1.5 times the production cost.

The approach aims to provide farmers with stronger price support while improving returns from key Rabi crops.

Wheat is expected to deliver a margin of up to 106 per cent over its production cost.

The higher support for pulses and oilseeds is intended to encourage farmers to diversify beyond traditional cereal cultivation.

The policy places greater emphasis on crops such as lentils, safflower and rapeseed and mustard.

These crops can support wider agricultural diversification while strengthening income opportunities for growers.

The Cabinet decision under Modi’s leadership therefore links MSP support with farmer earnings and changes in cropping patterns. It seeks to make Rabi cultivation more remunerative while encouraging a broader mix of crops across Indian farms.
