Cabinet Approves ₹1.86 Lakh Crore PM-DHARA Scheme: HM Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the Union Cabinet’s approval of the ₹1,86,405 crore PM-DHARA scheme to strengthen India’s intra-state power transmission network.

The government has rebranded Green Energy Corridor Phase-III as PM-DHARA and aims to use the scheme to evacuate 135 GW of renewable energy.

The programme will expand transmission infrastructure across states and improve the grid’s ability to absorb rapidly growing renewable power.

It will also address congestion and reduce renewable-energy curtailment during peak generation periods.

The scheme allocates ₹50,000 crore to deploy 50 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS).

These storage facilities will help manage the intermittent nature of solar and wind generation.

Additionally, they will support electricity supply during peak-demand hours and help the grid meet non-solar demand more efficiently.

The government has earmarked ₹54,082 crore as central financial support to offset transmission charges.

This support will lower renewable integration and transmission costs for consumers.

The government has set FY 2032-33 as the completion target for the scheme.

PM-DHARA supports renewable-energy growth and India’s 500 GW non-fossil power target by 2030.

The scheme combines transmission expansion with large-scale energy storage to strengthen grid reliability as India increases its dependence on renewable energy.
