HM Amit Shah Concludes Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra; Pledges Drug-Free State By 2029

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday marked the conclusion of the BJP’s 13-day Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra in Jalandhar.

The campaign covered nearly 4,000 km across all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab. It sought to build awareness against drug abuse through outreach across villages.

Addressing a large gathering in Jalandhar, Shah criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government over its record on the state’s drug problem. He alleged that the government came to power with the “Nasha Mukt Punjab” slogan but had failed to curb the narcotics trade.

Shah pledged that the BJP would eliminate the drug trade in Punjab by December 31, 2029, if the party forms the state government. He urged voters to support the BJP and linked the pledge to the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 Assembly election.

The yatra began on September 18 from Pathankot. Four separate routes covered the state’s 117 Assembly constituencies over 13 days.

The campaign focused on creating public awareness about drug abuse and encouraging people to participate in the fight against narcotics.

Shah’s closing rally drew a large gathering, with BJP flags and party leaders visible at the venue.

The visuals accompanying his post highlighted the campaign’s public outreach and its anti-drug message.

The Home Minister has placed the drug issue at the centre of the BJP’s Punjab campaign. His 2029 pledge gives the party a specific deadline for its stated objective of eliminating the illicit drug trade.
