Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a tragic fire that engulfed a factory in Solapur, Maharashtra, on Sunday, 18 May 2025.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wished a speedy recovery for those injured in the incident.
“Pained by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in Solapur, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” PM Modi stated.

As a gesture of support, the Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased.
Additionally, ₹50,000 will be provided to each injured person to aid in their recovery and treatment.
President Murmu Expresses Grief
President Droupadi Murmu also mourned the loss of lives in the incident, describing the news as ‘extremely painful’.
In her message on X, she extended her deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
“The news of the death of many people due to a factory fire in Solapur, Maharashtra, is extremely painful. I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” the President wrote.

Details Of The Incident
The fire broke out at a factory located in the MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) area of Solapur.
Firefighters rushed to the site to bring the blaze under control.
Although officials have not yet confirmed the exact number of casualties, the tragedy has triggered a nationwide outpouring of sympathy.
Authorities continue to carry out rescue and relief operations, and they will release more information as the investigation progresses.
In an unrelated but equally tragic incident, a fire erupted earlier in the day at a building in Gulzar House, near Charminar, Hyderabad.
At least 17 people, including eight children, lost their lives. Eleven fire engines were deployed to control the blaze, and rescue operations are ongoing.
The twin tragedies have cast a shadow of mourning across the country.
With both central and state governments monitoring the situation, efforts are underway to provide relief to the victims’ families and ensure accountability.
