PM Modi, Amit Shah Extend Vishu Wishes; Highlight Festival Of Hope And New Beginnings

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his wishes on the occasion of Vishu, describing the festival as a celebration of hope, positivity and new beginnings.

In a message shared on X, PM Modi said the festival reflects gratitude and optimism, and expressed hope that the year ahead would bring happiness, prosperity, good health and success for all.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also greeted people on the occasion, extending his wishes to the people of Kerala. He said the festival marks a fresh beginning filled with renewed hope and positivity, and wished for continued progress and confidence rooted in cultural traditions.

People across Kerala celebrate Vishu each year on April 15, marking the start of the Medam month in the Malayalam calendar. The festival symbolises prosperity, renewal and optimism for the year ahead.

A key ritual of the day is Vishukkani, where people begin the morning by viewing a carefully arranged display of items such as fruits, rice, flowers and a mirror, believed to bring good fortune.

Celebrations also include prayers, wearing new clothes, exchanging gifts known as Vishukkaineetam, and sharing traditional meals.

While Vishu is often regarded as a New Year celebration, the official Malayalam New Year falls later in the calendar. Despite this, the festival continues to hold deep cultural and spiritual significance, symbolising fresh starts and a hopeful outlook for the future.

The occasion remains an important part of Kerala’s cultural identity, bringing families and communities together in a spirit of joy and renewal.
