Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended birthday greetings to former President Ram Nath Kovind, praising his long public life and commitment to the development of the country.

PM Modi said Kovind had served the nation with passion and simplicity.

Taking to X, the Prime Minister said Kovind’s public life reflected a steadfast commitment to India’s development, constitutional values and the welfare of the people. He also wished the former President good health, happiness and a long life.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah wished former President Ram Nath Kovind on his birthday, praising his journey and commitment to the underprivileged and constitutional duties.

Shah posted the message on X and prayed for Kovind’s healthy and long life.

Ram Nath Kovind was born on October 1, 1945, in Paraunkh village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat district. He joined the BJP in 1991 and served as the party’s Dalit Morcha chief between 1998 and 2002. He also served as president of the All-India Koli Samaj.

Kovind entered the Rajya Sabha in 1994 and served two terms until 2006. He later became Bihar Governor before serving as India’s 14th President from 2017 to 2022.

In August, PM Modi released Kovind’s autobiography, Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles, at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. The book traces Kovind’s journey from his early years through his public service as a parliamentarian, Governor and President.

PM Modi said the autobiography highlights Kovind’s struggles, service and contributions in different public roles. He also said the book reflects the strengths and possibilities of Indian democracy.
