Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday accused the DMK-led government in Tamil Nadu of slowing down the execution of several major initiatives sanctioned by the Centre.
Speaking at a large National Democratic Alliance (NDA) campaign gathering in Panchapur in Tiruchirappalli district, he said such delays affect the credibility of the Union government and obstruct the state’s progress.
Modi stated that a strong NDA partnership would be vital for speeding up development in Tamil Nadu and ensuring that central programmes are implemented smoothly for the benefit of citizens.
The Prime Minister alleged that the DMK government, headed by Chief Minister MK Stalin since 2021, had not effectively carried forward several key development projects.
He said the state administration had slowed programmes aimed at building houses for rural families as well as major infrastructure proposals, including the planned high-speed rail links connecting Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, due to a lack of cooperation.
Modi also claimed the DMK government was deliberately delaying these projects to avoid giving credit to the Centre, adding that such actions ultimately harm the people of Tamil Nadu.
Focus on Agriculture and Farmers
Highlighting the significance of the agricultural sector, Modi described farmers in the Cauvery delta as central to Tamil Nadu’s food production.
However, he alleged that the state government had neither increased the paddy procurement price nor created sufficient storage infrastructure for grains.
He questioned the administration about the promised facilities, saying farmers were still awaiting concrete action.
The Prime Minister also spoke about corruption allegations and law-and-order concerns in the state. Referring to claims of a job-for-money scandal, he said such incidents had shattered the hopes of many young people seeking employment opportunities.
Modi further alleged that crimes against women had risen in recent years and said the NDA alliance would prioritise creating a safer environment where offenders would fear the law.
He also pointed out that the Union government had extended loans amounting to Rs 16 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu and stressed that stronger cooperation between the Centre and the state was necessary to fully realise the state’s development potential.
