Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged citizens to take precautions against the ongoing heatwave affecting several parts of the country and encouraged people to help others during the extreme weather conditions.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister advised people to stay hydrated, carry water while stepping outdoors and offer water to those in need.

PM Modi said the intense heat has affected people across different regions of India and appealed to citizens to remain cautious during the summer conditions. He stressed that simple acts of kindness, such as offering a glass of water to others, can make a significant difference during extreme temperatures.

PM Modi’s appeal came as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a severe heatwave warning for Delhi-NCR over the next two days.

According to the department, the maximum temperature in the national capital may touch 45 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain around 28 degrees Celsius.

The IMD warned that strong hot winds may affect Delhi-NCR during the afternoon and evening hours, increasing discomfort across the region.

Authorities advised residents to avoid outdoor activities and protect themselves from direct sunlight.

The department has forecast thunderstorms, rain, gusty winds and squalls from May 28 onwards. Temperatures may fall to around 43 degrees Celsius on May 28 and further decline to nearly 36 degrees Celsius on May 29.

The IMD also predicted lightning and light rainfall as part of ongoing pre-monsoon activity, which is likely to bring significant relief from the severe heatwave.
