Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually addressed players participating in the finals of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav and youth from across the country during the concluding programme held in Junagadh, Gujarat.
The Prime Minister highlighted the growing strength of India’s sports ecosystem and the crucial role of young athletes in shaping the nation’s future.
During the interaction, PM Modi spoke with players from various parts of Gujarat, listening to their experiences and encouraging them to continue striving for excellence in sports.
The Sansad Khel Mahotsav 2025 is a nationwide grassroots sports initiative being organised across every Lok Sabha constituency.
Inspired by the Prime Minister’s Fit India and Khelo India visions, the programme aims to identify and nurture local sporting talent while promoting fitness, discipline and teamwork among the youth.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said the enthusiasm and confidence of the players reflected India’s growing strength.
He noted that the confidence displayed by young athletes inspires millions of other youths across the country.
Government Support for Athletes
Emphasising government backing for sportspersons, the Prime Minister said initiatives such as the Sansad Khel Pratiyogita are providing athletes with platforms to showcase their talent and receive support at the grassroots level.
He expressed satisfaction that young players were getting opportunities to compete and grow through such programmes.
PM Modi also said the Sansad Khel Mahotsav has evolved into a people’s movement, witnessing participation from cities as well as villages and involving people from all walks of life.
Highlighting the inclusive nature of the event, the Prime Minister noted that differently-abled athletes have also received opportunities to progress through the Mahotsav.
He congratulated all athletes and young participants for setting new milestones through the initiative.
As a Member of Parliament from Kashi, PM Modi said he has remained closely connected with such sports events and has witnessed firsthand the positive impact they have on youth development.
Unlimited Opportunities in Sports
Speaking about the changing sports landscape in the country, the Prime Minister said India now offers unlimited opportunities in sports.
He noted that a strong ecosystem has been created, enabling even children from economically weaker backgrounds to reach the highest levels at a young age.
PM Modi also spoke about India’s aspirations to host major international sporting events, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad and the 2036 Olympic Games.
He said children who are currently 10 or 12 years old could represent India at the 2036 Olympics, stressing the importance of identifying and nurturing talent early.
Calling upon Members of Parliament to actively support grassroots sports, the Prime Minister urged them to identify talent in their constituencies and provide all possible assistance.
Encouraging athletes, PM Modi said they are not competing only for personal success but also representing the pride and dignity of the Tricolour.
He also urged parents to support their children’s participation in sports, underlining that sports play a vital role in physical health, mental well-being and overall education.
The Sansad Khel Mahotsav 2025 began on September 21 and will conclude later in the day after weeks of sporting competitions with nationwide participation.
