Born on 21 July 1942 in Varawatti village of Bhalki Taluk, Bidar district, Karnataka, Kharge comes from a Dalit family and has dedicated decades to public service and political leadership.

Mallikarjun Kharge assumed the office of Congress National President in 2022, becoming the first non-Gandhi family member to lead the party in 24 years.
